Lyceum lecture – Dancing Conversations: Nature as Collaborator
February 15, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Event Navigation
Concert dance and the environment might seem to have little in common. But both highlight that which appears in nature, be it the human body or the elements. Whether viewers are sitting in a dark theater or hiking among wildlife, both carry new worlds for exploration, potential discovery, and better understanding. In this presentation, Christy Bolingbroke will describe how choreographers consider nature and the environment in their work and share examples of creative research and finished dances.
As the Founding Executive/Artistic Director for the National Center for Choreography at the University of Akron (NCCAkron), Christy Bolingbroke sets the curatorial vision to foster research and development opportunities in professional dance. Ms. Bolingbroke earned a B.A. in Dance from the University of California, Los Angeles; an M.A. in Performance Curation from Wesleyan University; and is a graduate of the Arts Management Fellowship program at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In 2017, DANCE Magazine named her among the national list of the most influential people in dance today.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Lecture begins at 7:00 p.m.
