Lyceum Lecture – Fran LeMasters: Pollinators, the Nature of Butterflies
April 6, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Event Navigation
Butterfly expert Fran LeMasters will give a lecture on the intricate and delicate lives of pollinators and butterflies, specifically Monarch butterflies. Topics of discussion will include the pollinator and butterfly lifecycle and how they adapt to the environment at different stages of development; the chain of the impact of environmental changes on pollinators, butterflies, and humans; the effects of habitat loss on the Monarch population; and cultivating plants which attract pollinators and encourage pollinating activity.
Fran LeMasters started a small business in 2000 called All A Flutter Butterflies. She raises butterflies for events, exhibits, and programs in schools, at garden centers, and for garden clubs. She has her own traveling interactive butterfly exhibit that can be enjoyed at six different locations throughout the summer and into fall. She supplies butterflies for the Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens’ seasonal butterfly exhibit, and for Hospice releases in Cleveland, Akron, and Columbus.
She is currently involved in the USDA/NRCS Conservation Project, the Monarch Butterfly Project. Ms. LeMasters lives on a farm in Tuscarawas County with her husband and has two grown sons, two wonderful daughters-in-law and three grandchildren.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Lecture begins at 7:00 p.m.
